Larry Schlomer, WELS World Missions administrator

Rev. Larry Schlomer grew up in Medellín, Colombia, where his father, Rev. Larry W. Schlomer, served as a missionary. His vicar year was spent in Puerto Rico, and he served nine years in the Dominican Republic following graduating from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. Larry then served in Houston, TX, helping grow the inner-city congregation by reaching out to the Hispanics in the neighborhood.  In 2011, he began serving as the chairman for the Board for World Missions, and in the summer of 2013 he began his called service as World Missions administrator. Larry and his wife Katie have six children: Jacob, Jonah, Luke, Isaiah, Abraham, and Dakota.

Bradley Wordell, Pastoral Studies Institute member and former missionary to Japan

Rev. Bradley Wordell currently serves on the Pastoral Studies Institute team and is a Professor of Old Testament at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary from 2015 – present. He was born and raised in Green Bay, WI, and attended high school at Fox Valley Lutheran. He went on to study at Northwestern College and Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary and graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in 1992. He married to his wife Andrea in 1992, and they have five children ages 25-18. He served as pastor at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, WI, from 1992-1999 and was called to be a Missionary to Japan from 1999-2015. He later served as the Multi Language Productions Asia Coordinator from 2012-2015. He is currently in a Doctor of Ministry program for Missions and Evangelism.

Nathan Seiltz, WELS Multi-Language Productions director

Rev. Nathan Seiltz graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in 1994. His past service includes time as a mission pastor in Casper, WY, and as a world missionary in the Dominican Republic. He was also the dean of students and principal at Evergreen Lutheran High School in Seattle, WA. He is currently the director of a program of World Missions called Multi-Language Productions (MLP), which works will all the WELS world mission fields to produce the materials in the language and format the fields need to do their work. MLP also directs TELL, the global online church multiplication effort in English.

Philip Birner, One Africa Team missionary in Zambia

Rev. Philip Birner graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in 1980 and was assigned to St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Iron Ridge, WI. He met his wife Susan there, as she was a teacher at St. Matthew’s Lutheran School. In 1991 he took a call to serve as a missionary to Zambia at our mission station in Mwembezhi where the Central Africa Medical Mission operates a rural health clinic and where he was the missionary-in-charge of the clinic. He helped supervise between 15-35 churches at Mwembezhi and in the Southern Provence of Zambia. They have three adult children: Benjamin, Zachary, and Sophia, who were born while serving in Africa. Since 1996 he has served as a teacher at the Lutheran Seminary in Lusaka, Zambia, which trains pastors for the Lutheran Church of Central Africa. They also adopted a daughter, Peggy, in 2019. They have lived in Zambia for almost 29 years.

Guy Marquardt, Friendly counselor to India

Rev. Guy Marquardt has served as a WELS Friendly Counselor to India since 2015. He has also served as a missionary in Brazil for 14 years and a parish pastor in Northern California for seven years. Guy and his wife Linda have four children and three grandchildren.
